"Panoptikum" is a journey through L.'s house and the long list of unusual objects that preserve her memories.
Each of the selected objects in this house-museum tells the story of L. in a different way: through the voices of characters called to share their perspective on the past; through the gaze of an all-seeing eye; the story of an old flea market-bought phone in Madrid; through the memory of a half-forgotten melody or interviews with the employees of a company for emptying abandoned houses.
The spect-actor must choose their own place both in space and in the action.
"PANOPTIKUM" also exists as an autoplay for one reader. They have to stage the play in their own home, replacing the objects from the performance with their own and creating in that way their own panoptikum.
ПАНОПТИКУМ е създаден по време на магистърската програма на Мартина Новакова по Театрално изкуство в Мадридския университет „Карлос III”, с художествен ръководител Хуан Майорга, която завършва с почетна диплома. Творческият процес е пряко повлиян от менторството на преподавателите ѝ, сред които са някои от най-значимите имена в съвременния испански театър като Хуан Майорга, Хосе Санчис Синистера, Пабло Месиес, Алваро Тато, Пабло Ремон, Андрес Лима и Пепе Виуела.
Първото представяне на проекта се състои през 2018 г. в Аудиторио де Леганес, Мадрид.
През 2020 година, “Паноптикум” е сред трите селектирани за превод съвременни български пиеси от EURODRAM Bulgaria. През май 2021г. се състои перформативно четене на пиесата в рамките на фестивал “ПроТекст 10” в Гьоте-Институт, София.
Същата година проектът печели финансиране от Национален Фонд “Култура”, програма „Дебюти“. Премиерата се състои през май 2023г. в Дом на културата „Красно село“.
През февруари 2024 г. ПАНОПТИКУМ е програмиран в “Топлоцентрала”.
The main objective of the play is to offer the spectator a new experience of the physical world by giving a voice to the Object and taking it out of the usual silent place it occupies.
Another feature of the play is that it’s an inseparable set of text, direction, music, stage and light design. The experience is a constant dialogue between different theatrical languages: music, fine art, gestural theatre and a documentary part of verbatim theatre.
Главните герои в ПАНОПТИКУМ са шест предмета:
керамична фигура на лос; предмет, който всички имаме вкъщи; роял; опакован телефон (oт старите), картина на балон с горещ въздух и кутия със странни подаръци.
Човешките персонажи са призовани, за да разкажат живота на тези предмети. Понякога гледните точки на разказвачите си противоречат, друг път се допълват, а някои остават непознати за част от посетителите.
Главната героиня в пиесата е жена на име Л., собственичката на къщата и предметите, чрез които я опознаваме. Л. има една особеност, тя вижда света чрез предметите в него. Най-големият ѝ страх е, че някой ден ще загуби паметта си. Затова заключва спомените си в материалния свят, така че никога да не изчезнат.
“Panoptikum” examines the material world, the objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, the value that we ascribe to them, and their influence on the relationships we establish with others.
Another primary influence is Sigmund Freud’s concept of “the uncanny” which is attributed to all objects, and the distinction which Martin Heidegger makes between “objects” and “things”, which says that objects transform into things when they can’t fulfill their usual purpose anymore. When something breaks, its intrinsic value disappears, only to appear for us in a new, unexpected form.
* In Bulgarian “panoptikum” means “a house or a museum with strange or peculiar objects”.
In the play, there are two documentary parts.
The first one is an interactive installation about Christo and Jeanne-Claude, their wrapped objects and buildings.
The second one is a Verbatim piece (the exact recreation of words and gestures) based on the real interviews of three people in Spain who own a company which empties people’s houses when their relatives have died or when they are moving out. They take care of all the objects in the house by dividing, classifying, evaluating and finally distributing them to their new destinations.
The space in which the performance can take place may be unconventional and it can differ.
"Panoptikum" can be performed in any open space (a gallery, a basement, a lobby, a house), which allows the audience to move freely. Spectators are actively involved in the action and can choose their place and point of view at any moment.
The music is original and performed live, on a grand piano, without which the performance cannot take place.
A minimum of 5 spotlights are required that can be manipulated in real time.
